Meet Our Pastor

Pastor Steele is a native of Rock Hill, SC and began his college education at York Technical College. He graduated from Belmont Abby, in Belmont, NC with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion & Psychology. Pastor Steele was awarded a Certificate from Emory University for completing the course From Freedom Rides to Ferguson: Narratives of Nonviolence in the American Civil Rights Movement. He studied an array of theological courses at Shaw University Divinity School and acquired his Masters of Divinity at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
Pastoral assignments for Pastor Steele have included Morning Star Church, Charlotte, NC; New Loves Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Lake Wylie, SC and Bethel AME Zion Church, Kannapolis, NC. While in Kannapolis, he served as a Judge in the Cabarrus County Teen Court System; was a member of the Board of Directors for the Dorothy Wall’s Conference & Retreat Center, and was the Chairman of the Board of Christian Education for the West Central North Carolina Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church.
In September 2013, Pastor Steele was appointed by Bishop W. Darin Moore to the First A.M.E. Zion Church, Los Angeles, CA, the flagship of the Western Episcopal District. First A.M.E. Zion’s congregation has been renewed, revived, and resurrected. Membership has increased, renovations are underway, and lives were being changed. Pastor Steele’s service to the A.M.E. Zion Church has included the West Central North Carolina Conference, and the Concord District in the following capacities: Elected Delegate to the 2012 General Conference; Concord District Treasurer; Chairman of the Concord District Budget Committee; Advisor to the Concord District Lay Council; Board of Apportionment of the West Central North Carolina Conference; Episcopal Leadership Training Board of the Piedmont Episcopal District, and Southeastern Region YACM Steering Committee Member-at-Large. 
Pastor Steele serves as the following for the Western Episcopal Area: Western Episcopal Treasurer; Dean of Finance for “The Encounter”, Facilitating Agent for the R.C.A. & A.M.E.Z Church Planting Initiative; Treasurer for the Board of Bishop’s Preaching Institute Planning Team; Board Member of the Connectional Council Publication Board; Chair, SWRMC Finance Committee; Chair, SWRMC Conference Studies/Examiners; Chair, Los Angeles District Finance Committee, Member; SWRMC Admission Committee Member, and SWRMC Holy Orders Committee.
He is an inductee of the 2015 World Methodist Council Order of The FLAME and a sought-after evangelist, revivalist, and workshop facilitator. Pastor Steele is the author of the book “The Sound of Revival” Exploring Prophetic Preaching in the Wesleyan Tradition, and hosts a weekly radio show sponsored by Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles at the RMC Media Center called "Inspirational Moments with Pastor Steele". 
In September 2016, Pastor Steele was appointed by Bishop Dennis V. Proctor to Varick Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, New Haven, CT as the 43rd Pastor. Varick is the Second Oldest Church in the A.M.E. Zion Denomination with a membership of over 2000 and is the Mother Church of the New England Annual Conference.

Pastor Steele is presently serving the New Haven Community in the following capacities CEO of the Varick Center for Empowerment, the Chair of the Board Of Directors for Booker T. Washington Academy, Vice President of the Greater New Haven Clergy Association, Treasurer of Bridges Of Hope, and an affiliate member of New Haven Rising.
Pastor Steele has a worldwide presence and provides leadership in World Methodist Evangelism by serving as an assistant to the Director of World Methodist Evangelism. Pastor Steele is married to Natasha Ford Steele and uses as his theme: “Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.” ― John Wesley
